The Season of Easter concludes with this weekend’s celebration, the Feast of Pentecost. On Pentecost we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem. Jesus fulfilled his promise to send to his disciples a helper, an advocate, who would enable them to be his witnesses throughout the world. This event marks the beginning of the Church.
In honor of this joyous occasion, it is popular tradition to wear red to Mass, to signify the presence of the Holy Spirit in our community and our unity in Christ. Hopefully, our church will be blazing in red.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.
